Event certification helps boost engagement, build trust, and make your events feel more credible. It also provides attendees with something to take away, which can lead to more sign-ups in the future.

But now that many events are online, how do you handle certificates without printing and distributing them?

The good news is, it’s even easier than before. With the right event plugin, you can create and send digital certificates automatically, with no extra work and no manual steps.

In this guide, we’ll show you why event certification matters and how you can create your own custom certificates in just a few clicks.

Let’s get started!

What is an event certificate?

An event certificate is a document you give to people who attend or complete your event. It indicates that they were involved in it, whether through a workshop, webinar, training, or any other session.

Think of it like a small reward. It can be said that the person attended, completed a task, or reached a goal during the event.

Some certificates are printed. Others are digital and sent by email. Many events now use digital certificates because they’re easier to send and store. Attendees can download them, print them if desired, or share them online.

It doesn’t need to be fancy. A simple layout with the person’s name, the event name, and the date is sufficient. Some also include a logo or a signature from the organizer to give it a more official feel.

Why create custom certificates for your WordPress event?

Even though they may seem unnecessary, a custom and unique certificate is something every company should have. They not only attract attention but also boost your company’s credibility and visibility.

By including your logos and being unique, you can utilize this as a marketing strategy, thereby increasing your company’s visibility.

They also build a sense of accomplishment and remind attendees of their experience with your company, increasing the chances of meeting them again.

Which plugin to use for Creating Custom Certificates in WordPress

There is a range of event management plugins available that can help you organize and manage your events efficiently. However, very few can offer to create event certification with full event management potential.

After trying out multiple top event certification plugins for each event, the Eventin plugin for WordPress appears to be the best among them.

Why? It offers the most straightforward interface and comes in the most affordable package, with most of the rich features you can ask for. Although we will have a walkthrough about its functionalities, let’s start by learning how to create a custom certificate for your events first.

Step-by-step guide on how to create a custom certificate on WordPress

Before creating an event certificate, you must have an event management website in place. A website that allows you to create multiple types of events enables attendee registration and helps maximize event performance within WordPress!

So, let’s start with an event management website to get a top event management certificate program.

Step 1: Create an event management website first

As we assume you don’t have an event website, follow these steps: Go to WordPress, install the Eventin event plugin, then navigate to Events and “Create a new Event”.

From your individual events section, you can add multiple pricing options, schedules, and speakers, and even create rsvp forms according to your needs. Customize the event setup as you like, and publish the event when you’re done.

Step 2: Create the event certificate

There are two different ways to create customized certificates using the Eventin event management plugin for WordPress.

  • Method 1: Create a Certificate Using Gutenberg Editor
  • Method 2: Create a Certificate Using Elementor Page Builder

Method 1: Create a certificate using the Gutenberg editor

Whether you create a certificate with Gutenberg or Elementor page builder for WordPress, you need to create an event certification page.

So, add a new page from your ‘Pages’ menu.

Give the page a name, and select Eventin Certificate as the page template.

Now, on that page, you can upload a background style or frame for your certificate.

Inside your background frame, you can add multiple types of elements using the Gutenberg builder. So, here, you have complete flexibility to add certificate content, your event management brand logo, and even signatures.

Now, to add automated attendee names on each certificate, you can utilize the Eventin event plugin for WordPress’s shortcode generator.

So, first, go to ‘Shortcodes’ from your left menubar. Generate and copy the shortcode for the ‘Event Certificate.’

You can generate a shortcode for the event title, attendee name, ticket ID, date, and other necessary information.

And place them in their place for customized certificates.

Method 2: Create a certificate using Elementor page builder

To create a certificate using Elementor page builder, click on ‘Edit with Elementor’  after creating a new page for custom event certification.

A new page with the Elementor page builder editor will open up. Here, go to the style section of the editor, and upload your event certificates layout.

Now, using Elementor’s drag-and-drop editor, you can add event title, attendee name, ticket ID, date, and other necessary information just like the Gutenberg editor.

For automated attendee name and event name collection, follow the steps to generate shortcodes and paste them into the Text Editor

Once everything is set up, save the changes, and you will receive your newly created event certificates, which you can use to run effective event certification programs and distribute certificates automatically.

Common mistakes to avoid while sending an event certificate

Creating event certificates isn’t hard, but a few minor errors can cause problems. Here’s what to watch out for:

  • Wrong attendee name or details: Double-check name fields. If you’re using dynamic tags from a plugin, test a few samples to ensure everything displays correctly.
  • Forgetting to test before sending: Always preview the certificate and test the email delivery before sending it out to everyone. This helps catch layout issues or missing info.
  • Using a generic design: A plain, off-brand certificate doesn’t feel special. Use your logo, choose colors that match your brand, and add a custom message if needed.
  • Sending certificates without real value: A certificate should mean something. Don’t send it out just for showing up unless that’s what the event was about. Keep it tied to actual participation or achievement.

Now that you have seen the benefits and ways to create a custom certificate, all that’s left is to make one for your next event!
